My ferrets are both good to follow in leash (of course, they follow like untrained puppies but its very good for ferrets)
When you put the harness, they both run into the pet carier because they know we are going somewhere. Ferrets are very inteligent pets and my ferrets are the perfect examples
lol When the walk is over and we are close to the parking, they both run to the car and make no mistake. I swear!
When they walk and they stop to see something they find interesting, I just have to say "come on" and they will start to walk again. They can walk for a pretty good distance at my feets, just like a dog!
The trick is: take them for a walk as young as possible
